Jäger Cheney

Dana's rifle is an exceptionally fine chiseled and engraved piece, a good example of some of the finer pieces that may have been carried here during the Revolution. This is due to the fact that the Jäger's firelocks were primarily private purchase weapons.  While the Hessian and other German states began to experiment with issued rifles for Jägers in the 1770s they were not popular and issued rifles for jägers did not become common until the Napoleonic era.
